Firefighters will be wearing pink shirts in October, in an effort to raise awareness during breast cancer awareness month. Shirts are also available for public purchase, through August (until Aug. 31), to benefit residents and neighbors in treatment.
“It’s so inspiring to see people wearing these pink shirts around town and to know that the money raised is going right back to residents in need,” said Lombard Firefighter/Paramedic Bob Hopper, an organizer of the cause. “More and more people get involved every year, and we’re happy that this has grown in popularity.”
Lombard Fire Chief Rick Sander approved the option for on duty fire department personnel to wear the pink shirts throughout the month of October. “Our members enjoy being involved in the community,” said Sander. “That’s why we do what we do and it’s great to see the way that Lombard has embraced this worthy cause.”
A community photo involving the pink shirts will be taken at a Fire Department open house on Wednesday, October 11, 6-8 p.m. at Fire Station 45, 50 E. St. Charles Rd. The open house is in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, October 8 – 14, 2017.
Shirts are available for purchase for $15 throughout August. All proceeds will go to the Bhorade Cancer Center at Good Samaritan Hospital. To place orders please email Firefighter Bob Hopper at LFDPINK@yahoo.com or call (708)769-6102. Please contact Communications Coordinator Avis Meade at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
