National Weather Service Flash Flood Warning:

THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL...ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY MORNING...WITH ADDITIONAL STORMS LIKELY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GIVEN THE VERY MOIST AIR MASS...THESE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING RAINFALL RATES UP TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AND LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook:

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED: - SIGNIFICANT THUNDERSTORM RISK...WITH AN ASSOCIATED:
- SIGNIFICANT TORNADO RISK. - ELEVATED HAIL RISK...UP TO 2 INCHES.
- EXTREME THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE RISK...UP TO 80 MPH. - ELEVATED FLOODING RISK.
- LIMITED EXCESSIVE HEAT RISK.

DISCUSSION:THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE OVER THE AREA THIS MORNING. LOCALIZED HEAVY RAIN IS A CONCERN...WITH MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL AND A FEW WIND GUSTS TO NEAR 60 MPH POSSIBLE ACROSS OUR FAR SOUTHWESTERN LOCATIONS INCLUDING ALONG AND SOUTHWEST OF A DIXON TO KANKAKEE LINE.

A MORE ORGANIZED ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL REDEVELOP ACROSS NORTHEAST IOWA AND NORTHWEST ILLINOIS THIS AFTERNOON. VERY LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND EVEN A FEW SIGNIFICANT TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE IN NORTHWEST ILLINOIS...POSSIBLY EXTENDING INTO NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS BEFORE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO TURN INTO A LINE OF STORMS. ALL HAZARDS CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING...WITH DAMAGING WINDS EXPECTED TO BE THE MOST WIDESPREAD HAZARD. WHILE THE WHOLE AREA IS AT RISK AND SOME UNCERTAINTY STILL EXISTS AS TO THE HIGHEST SEVERE THREAT LOCATION...AT THIS POINT ALONG AND SOUTHWEST OF A LINE FROM ROCKFORD TO CHICAGO TO VALPARAISO WOULD BE FAVORED FOR A WIDESPREAD WIND EVENT. A SLIGHT SHIFT NORTH IN THE
WARM FRONT POSITION COULD HAVE HIGHER IMPACTS ACROSS THE CHICAGO METRO.
