On Tuesday, May 17 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Lombard Fire department responded to a reported structure fire at 1100 block of N. Main St.
The call was initially dispatched as an activated fire alarm and was upgraded after a Lombard Public Works employee noticed the fire while driving on Progress Rd. The first arriving Lombard Fire Department crews found heavy smoke conditions and a fire in the delivery dock area of the building. Firefighters began to secure the area, and discovered that the fire originated from a passenger car on fire in the dock. The fire caused smoke and water damage to businesses on either side of the dock area. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit.
The Lombard Fire Department received assistance from multiple surrounding fire departments. For additional information please contact Assistant Chief Jerry Howell at (630)620-5734.
