The Hammerschmidt Commuter Lot in Downtown Lombard is scheduled to open on Monday, December 21, after undergoing an expansion project that will provide commuters with 92 new parking spaces.
The lot can accommodate an additional 92 cars and is a daily fee lot. As part of the project, an additional pay station with an enclosure has been provided. The contractor’s remaining work effort is related to the seeding of the turf grass and the preparation and planting of the bioswales that will assist with drainage and support native plantings. This work can be completed once the lot is open.
The Hammerschmidt Lot is located along the north side of the Metra West train line, at the south east corner of Main Street and St. Charles Rd., in Downtown Lombard. The lot is daily fee parking only and does not include any permit parking spaces. A second payment box has been added to help alleviate payment congestion. A shelter has been placed around the pay boxes to help protect commuters from inclement weather. Commuters may also choose to pay by phone with the Passport Parking app or online at passportparking.com/park for a $0.37 fee per transaction. The new spaces in the Hammerschmidt lot will help reduce the need for additional parking spaces when the temporary lot at 101 S. Main is sold for future development. Commuter lots in Downtown Lombard are open for free parking after 11 a.m., and provide parking for shoppers and restaurant goers in need of parking longer than 2 hours.
