The Lombard Fire Department recently presented a $2,000donation to the Good Samaritan Hospital Wig Boutique to help purchase wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments.
On Wednesday, October 7, members of the Lombard Fire Department presented the donation during their annual National Fire Prevention Week open house. The funds were raised through the Fire Department’s pink shirt fundraiser, which allows firefighters to voluntarily purchase the pink shirts to wear throughout October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Village staff and Lombard residents were also able to purchase the same limited edition pink shirts, with proceeds going to the charity.
“I’m very proud of our Lombard Firefighters and of the community for coming out to enjoy our open house and to show their support of this cause,” said Lombard Fire Chief Paul DiRienzo. “A lot of people have been personally impacted by breast cancer, and it’s great to be able to come together to show support for our community, our residents, and our guys.”
Shirts will once again be available for pre-order in fall of 2016. To be placed on next year’s contact list please email the Village’s Communications Coordinator Avis Meade at .
