The Village’s Main Street Improvement Project is scheduled to begin on April 27, 2020 with notable project activity commencing in early May. The project includes the resurfacing of Main Street from Wilson Avenue to St. Charles Road and pedestrian improvements at certain locations.
A public open house was unable to be held due to the Governor’s Stay-At-Home Mandate related to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, a video project overview, project details, answered questions, and other material is available at villageoflombard.org/main.
The majority of funding is provided by the Federal Surface Transportation Program, and the funding and contract are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The Village has been informed by IDOT that construction is scheduled to move forward as planned and will not be postponed. Construction is considered an essential activity by the Department of Homeland Security. The Village and project contractor will attempt to minimize inconveniences during construction.
Due to temporary lane closures and associated construction work, motorists are reminded to follow traffic signage and exercise caution within the work zone. No road closures are anticipated, and the project is scheduled for completion by early August. Several pedestrian crossings will be improved with high visibility crosswalks. The Maple Street intersection will be improved with shortened crosswalks and decorative corners. The Illinois Prairie Path crossing will also be improved.
Driveways are anticipated to be remain accessible throughout the project unless isolated curb replacement is required. Water and sewer services are not anticipated to be interrupted. Residents and businesses located within the project area have been sent a direct notification letter. Anyone wishing to receive updates or alerts related to the project may sign up for notifications at villageoflombard.org/notifyme.
