The Lombard Fire Department was presented with a prestigious award from the American Heart Association for providing its first responders with the training needed to recognize and treat STEMI, or ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction heart attacks victims.
Firefighters were able to use this lifesaving training in four separate Lombard emergencies last year.
Illinois Mission Lifeline Director of the American Heart Association, Art Miller, presented the Village of Lombard’s Fire Department with a Bronze Level award honoring their dedication to their lifesaving training and response to heart attack victims. In 2014 the Lombard Fire Department helped to save the lives of four STEMI victims due to proper training. The Lombard Department, with the budget approval of the Village Board, was able to invest in the lifesaving training and equipment needed to recognize and diagnose STEMI symptoms, to effectively treat this critical diagnosis and minimize damage to patients.
This award has been presented to an elite selection of 17 Fire Departments State-wide, including four in DuPage County.
